just hang around him and act like his best best best bud and i think that should cheer him up a bit.
You best either have him put down or give him to somebody that can.
check around your community with some smaller vets. a lot of them will let you pay later. bounce a damn check if you have to, just get your cat to the vet.
Most vets can give you a number to apply for a credit card that you can pay your vet bill on then pay it off in payments. Your cat needs care. Don’t let it suffer. Tell anyone you know about it see if you can find help.
I would spend as much time with him… maybe he is sad that you don’t spend enough time with him
Your cat is very old and obviously you’ve taken good care of him and love him very much. However, 14 years is a long time to live for a cat. You might want to consider having him put to sleep. In the meantime, make him as comfortable as you can – warm blankets and such. My cats never turn their noses at a can of tuna fish, maybe he’d like to eat something like that.
I wish you all the best.
Nothing you can do. He needs a vet. Just make sure he has food available, and water, and give him love.
you need to take to vet, my cat was skinny and not eating. My cat had cancer. Work with your vet about payments maybe. GO NOW!!!!!
You need to go see a vet. My cat was nearly 16 when he stopped eating and was drinking a lot of water. He had kidney failure. Not good.
If he is drinking a ton of water his kidneys could be failing. Obviously he needs to go to the vet, but if that is not an option all you can do is love him and make sure his last time is peaceful. Offer him soft food, and always keep him plenty of water. If you feel he is suffering, please work to save the money to have him put to sleep. It cost about $30-$50 at most vet clinics. Try to save a little money and call your vet. Tell them your budget and that you want to do all you can. Sometimes they can at least give you some medicine that may help. Also, call around to several vets- some have better prices for office visits. He is an old cat- make sure to give him extra special care and attention.
Dont worry,.. my cat is like that and he’s only like 10..!! Maybe its age..!! 1 cat year is like 6human years i think but it varies in different breeds.. i heard that hamsters only r meant 2 live 4 1 and a half years.. but he lived 4 3 year so..!! Who knows..!!
Yea.. im a cultie and love animals!! :-)
Maybe its the food??
My mom’s cat is about the same age and she is the same way.
She actually has had mood changes and her behavior at times is very bizarre- it’s almost as if she has lost half her marbles!
As long as the cat is eating a bit and taking in fluids, the best you can do is keep him comfortable. He is so old now that really, there’s not much you can do except enjoy him while he’s still with you and keep him happy. You will know when it’s time to take him to the vet, but until then, I wouldn’t change his food or stress him out. Take care and I hope your kitty will be ok!
To quote Jim Morrison and I mean this very sympathetically “This is the end, my Friend…”
My little guy is 13 and he has worn the fur off the sides of his honches(back legs), I hope he doesn’t have some skin condition, it looks pink and smooth, but we’ll let it play out I guess…..good luck to ya, I hope I’m wrong, but give him lots of love, get some updated pictures also.
14 is old, so he might just be tired, hang with him. And when you get money, take him right away.
Not sure that there is much you can do…he needs a vet–could be cat diabetes, intestinal blockage…lots of things. Perhaps your vet will let you pay later if you’ve been a loyal patient??? Or perhaps there is a charitable organization that will see him??
I found this online, it seems hypothyroid according to this site:
but of course could be a million other thing.
Some pet stores, like Petco have free clinics once/week – ours having it on tuesdays between 2-4 pm, you only have to pay for treatment if you can, but certainly they can give you advice. Bansfield Animal Hospital works within our local Petco, try to find one in your area.
Good luck with you cat.
For one: Your cat IS sick. A vet is best.
However, when cats start getting to older ages, they aren’t very active, and they start being extra lazy. Cats naturally sleep during the day a lot. If your cat is extra sluggish, it might be fine, he’s just getting old and tired. Some cats are most active while you’re sleeping, anyways. If your cat isn’t budging from one spot at all, yes, that’s not a good sign.
The fact that your cat is not eating, shows that your cat is most definitely sick. Look for ways and information on improving your cats health. Try feeding different foods. Your cat is drinking water…very very good. Start putting out some milk, and if that is successful, begin to add some softer solids, and work your way up to a healthy diet.
I know you don’t have enough money for a vet, but a vet is your best option. There are programs who help people who can’t afford vet bills. Look around. Other than that, I’m sorry. Best of luck.
I think you should take your kitty to the vet. My cat had cancer when similar symptoms came into play. Try not to worry though, see what the vet has to say first. 14 years is what our Mikey lived to, and we loved him dearly. Whatever your cat needs, give him. There are some vets offices that accept your cat for evaluation first or something, but your cat needs medical attention as soon as possible. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your cat, luck to both of you.

Most likely with the water drinking and weight loss., your cat has diabetes. Untreated, your cat will starve to death no matter how much he eats. If treated you can have your whole cat back to the way it was before diagnosis. If you wait to treat, ketones can develop which are serious, life threataning and can be very expensive.
I can help you and save you money and will work with you every step of the way but you have to go to the vet, get a diagnosis and a prescription for insulin. Initial costs can be high but it can be very manageable if you take control and I can teach you to do that, If you are not going to treat,k put to sleep and don’t just sit there as that would be very cruel as it is not a good way to die
Poor little guy! I have an old girl that age myself and she’s slowed down alot too. It sounds like old age is really kicking in. I do suggest you see a vet when you can to make sure it’s not an illness, but in the meantime you could try giving him baby food to eat (cats LOVE baby food!) and love him as much as you can while you still have time. I wish you and your cat the best of luck, I know this must be a hard time for you. :(
Give him a kiss for me!
when my cat got sick and wouldn’t eat I fed her turkey baby food… it was the only thing I could get her to eat… That got me through until I could get to the vet. You could also ask your vet if you can buy a can of A/D it is special food that is formulated for sick pets pretty much all of them eat it. (it cost me $3.00 a can) and then if your cat is still not eating on it’s own you can ask for a syringe with no needle water down the cat food suck it up and feed it to your cat with the syringe.. be carefull to only put a bit down at a time so you don’t choke the cat.
if the cat stops going to the bathroom… then you need to get it to the vet.
Thats what happends when you get old also our cat did somthing similar to that he was 15 and BLIND and he still hated the littler box always went out side and could always find his way back to the nouse then one day he died in his sleep
The drinking lots of water and getting skinny sounds very familiar. I’ve lost a couple cats to hyperthyroidism, but not right away. A vet would need to do a test to tell for sure and there are drugs the kitty can take. It’s probably a daily pill for the rest of their lives but my two guys lived 3 and 4 years after the hyperthyroidism was first diagnosed.
It’s heartbreaking to see weight-loss and lethargy in your pet. I know it’s not a good answer to just say, “take him to a vet” but you need to find a way as soon as you can afford it, whether it’s hyperthyroidism or something else.
Give your guy a gentle pat for me.
